Getting Started

This page will teach you all you need to know in order to download and run Next Gen Planet Simulator, and also what you need to know in order to generate your very own simulated planet with thermodynamics.

Downloading NGPS
​
In order to download NGPS, please visit the link below:

Installing NGPS
​
Next Gen Planet Simulator uses a .jar file. In order to run Next Gen planet simulator, you need to do the following:
​
1. Extract the downloaded .zip file to a folder of your choosing.
​
2. Double-click on run.bat.
​
Next Gen Planet Simulator should launch automatically.

Generating your first planet in NGPS
​
Now that you have Next Gen Planet Simulator running, the next thing to do is to create your very first simulated planet.
​
1. Click on Edit
​
2. Click on Add Celestial Body
​
3. Name your planet
​
4. Type in your mass and velocity vectors (be aware of the units involved); you can also change your planet's radius if you wish.
​
5. Click Add
​
Congratulations! Your very own planet should display on the screen.

Ready to go!

While this page covers the basics of generating a single planet, there is many more the application can do. You can add moons and other celestial objects, and see how they interact with their parent planet.
